“Hey, this is Jack Miller. I want to tell you a great story and an interesting lesson that happened to me last night around 10 o’clock. I’m sitting on the sofa, checking my LinkedIn, and someone posted, “Do you return calls or pick up your phones on Sunday?” In whatever he went, I want to say that he picked up the phone call from an attorney, and blah, blah, blah. People were commenting, and most people said they didn’t pick up their phones on Sunday. I made a post and said, “I pick up my phone 24 hours a day, every day of the week. I love when people call me. I wish they called me all the time. I’m grateful for them to call me. I fight for every deal, I fight for every relationship, and every referral.” Guy wrote back “You sound desperate.” I actually thought it was pretty funny, and I told them I’m not desperate; I just love what I do.
And the truth is, I’ve been in business for 30 years, and it’s been tough. There were some years that you literally barely made it, you barely survived, but we made it to 33 years because we have a culture of literally working 24 hours a day. So, I stand proud. I love to call people back. I wish my phone would ring at 10 o’clock at night, 11 o’clock at night, 12 o’clock, 1 a.m., 2 a.m., 3 a.m., 4 a.m., 5 a.m. You keep those leads coming, you keep those referrals coming. We speak to our vendors, our staff, our employees, our borrowers. We’re always, always, we have the culture of always working hard here at Gelt Financial. I love it. I’m proud of it. And you know what? I’m never gonna retire. I’m never gonna take a vacation. Well, I take vacations once a month to keep my wife happy, but I love these calls. I got made fun of a lot on LinkedIn because these people didn’t want to work evenings and weekends, and you know what? That’s fine. I’m not making a judgment about them, but I love my evening hours. I love my weekend hours. I love vacations because I get work done, and I’m there to take your deals. So, I gotta fight for my deals, and I’m willing to fight for it. That’s how I stay in business, and I enjoy every second of it. Not making fun of the guy who posted last night, but this is who I am, and this is the culture at Gelt. I wanted everyone to know it because I’m damn proud of it. 30 years in business. You Google, you see how many businesses have been in business for 30 years. Not too many. We do it because we fight for our deals. We fight for our borrowers. We fight for everything, tooth and now we want referrals, and we’ll gladly take them.
