Listen and uplift people. Commercial Mortgage Broker Tip of the Day and Advice for Commercial Mortgage Brokers.

Jack: Marcy and Jack, so we want to make our mortgage broker tip of the day. It’s really for commercial mortgage, but it’s to any broker. It’s really to humanity. So, what is it today, Marcy?
Marcy: We’re going to talk about how when you speak to someone, to be kind, to feel that you’re smiling through the phone, to leave people that you talk to, even if it’s not a yes conversation, either you’re going to leave them with feeling good about themselves. So, we just want to say tip of the day is to really be kind and to listen because people have, what they say, you can see if you can help them or not and just really listen. So, what do you think?
Jack: So really, a couple of things on that, Marcy. Number one is, you know, the business is, it’s really very little in person today. It’s in email and on the phone, and we’re all multitasking. So sometimes we’re on the phone and we’re answering emails and texts. So it’s try to be present in the conversation, listen to the borrower’s words, try to empathize with the situation they’re in. If they’re in a difficult situation, try to understand and really learn the situation. By the way, not only are you, when you learn the situation, are you being empathetic to the borrower, you’re really doing a better job because you’re getting in their mind to know their motivation for doing the transaction. So you’re being kind and you’re being sympathetic and empathetic, but really there’s self-motivation. The more you understand their motivation, the more likely you are to—
Marcy: To be able to help them. So, listen, be kind.
Jack: And be candid and be uplifting. So when I say be candid and be uplifting, what I mean by that is if you can’t do the deal, if it’s in a rural or whatever it is, whatever the reason you can’t do it, just tell them you can’t do it, but do it in a kind way. And last for me is, and I try to do this, I really don’t do it, but I really want to. I try to uplift everybody I talk to and everyone I meet, even if it’s the waitress or the checkout girl at Publix, the supermarket. But anyone I meet, I try to uplift. So, for example, give you a perfect example. I get a lot of calls from young aspiring real estate investors, and I try to uplift them and encourage them and let them know that they can do it and that they have the talent to do it and they’re talented and special. So really, the tip of the day is when you’re speaking to someone, get in their head, uplift them, lift them up. The world, unfortunately, has a way of holding people down.
Marcy: And just be positive in a kind way. You know, be there, be the sunshine, and you know, how, like, we’ve all learned throughout my whole life used to say that when you walk into a room, be the light. But, you know, as we know, everything is through the phone—TikTok, YouTube, emails. So they have to feel your kindness through how you present yourself.
